Recently I have been brainstorming a lot of how I could improve my blog and new ideas. I have written down quite some ideas. I often get e-mails from beginning bloggers whether I can mention their blog on mine or my social media channels or if I have some tips for blogging. So I thought wouldn't it be fun to do a little serie of blogging tips. With different subjects like photography, layout, making money, social media and spreading the word. This is my first post for starting a blog.
#1: Before you start a blog, make sure you know what kind of blogger you want to be. Your decision is not definitive, but your first readers should know what your blog is about in order to make them return. I first started as a "review blog" about fashion shows, but sooner or later it transformed into a personal style blog (still about fashion).
#2: Start you pick a platform where you want to build your blog. My blog is powered by www.blogger.com. This seems like an ideal choice when you are just getting started, but when you have been blogging for a while you might want to change to Wordpress since they have a lot more options. Anyways, I am not that handy to step over to Wordpress so if you get the chance. Start at Wordpress at let your father, brother or neighbour help you.
#3: Layout. The most important thing besides the contect is the layout. The layout is the first impression you get when you open the website. Minimalistic layouts look overall professional and it is the easiest way to get started. By just creating a simple layout with a white background and not too many distractions.
#4: Start to socialize. After lancing your blog online does not immediately mean you will get tons of followers and visitors. In fact this process might even take years or months. But do not give up. Try to go on twitter, instagram, pinterest, tumblr, facebook whatsoever and follow people with common interests. They might follow you back and take a look at your blog perhaps.
#5: Post frequently. You gotta have some content in order to gain followers. If you have your layout and social media channels you should have something to share and come up with new things every now and then. Try to post at least once a week.
I hope these tips will help some of you with starting a blog! The next post of the bloggingtips series will be about social media. Thanks for reading. Love, Zoë :)
